Treatment inquiry

It is a big decision to travel abroad for treatment. Here is our step-by-step guide explaining the process. We are here to assist you all the way.

1. Application

To make a treatment inquiry, please complete the online application form and send copies of recent medical records in English or Swedish to:

2. Availability

Sahlgrenska International Care will then contact the appropriate department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, or another hospital in Region Västra Götaland, to check availability. As these are public hospitals, patients in Region Västra Götaland have precedence and treatment to international patients can be offered if, or when, the capacity allows it. 

 A coordinator will confirm receipt within a few days and keep you informed about the progress of your application.   

3. Treatment costs 

If the requested treatment can be offered, as a next step we will present a preliminary treatment plan as well as an estimated cost for the care. Please note that all treatment costs are individually set. 

4. Confirmation and payment

Treatment dates will be definitively scheduled and confirmed when Sahlgrenska I.C. receives a guarantee of payment. Accepted forms of payment: 
- guarantee of payment from an insurance company/official guarantor 
- S2 form for planned medical care in another EU-country  
- prepayment of the estimated treatment costs. 

5. Services

We are happy to assist with practical matters before, during and after your admission such as providing certificates for visa application, hotel reservations, interpreters as well as transport within Gothenburg. 

6. Invoice

When the treatment is completed we will send a final invoice of the total cost for the treatment. If the cost is lower than estimated we will reimburse the surplus amount, and if the cost is higher than estimated we will require an additional payment.
