ATMP Centre at Sahlgrenska University Hospital

The ATMP Centre at Sahlgrenska University Hospital has a coordinating role for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) in healthcare. It collaborates both with industry and academia.

The regulatory framework and requirements for ATMPs are more extensive than for traditional medicines. This places new demands on the healthcare system in terms of manufacturing, logistics and handling.

ATMP Centre supports researchers and product developers with ATMP-specific issues related to regulations, processes, applications and permits for clinical research, evaluation and collaboration.

It provides opportunities for collaboration and cooperation with other stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.

  • Support for clinical trials (academic and industry-sponsored)
  • Advice on product development
  • Clinical research counselling (regulatory, research funding, health economics)
  • Support with applications to the Swedish Medical Products Agency and the Swedish Ethical Review Authority
  • Project management support

The ATMP Centre at Sahlgrenska was established in 2020. In 2024 the first Nordic centre for gene and cell therapies for children was inaugurated at Queen Silvia’s Children's Hospital. This centre is a part of the Sahlgrenska ATMP Centre.
